“And He (Jesus) said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers.” Luke 10:2 ESV
Prayer meetings and prayer services are some of the least attended services in many churches and ministries. There are probably a number of reasons why that is the case, but I believe that we often enter prayer not expecting God to answer our prayer. Such was the case for me recently.
On Saturday, June 27 a group of people gathered at Ekklesia Church, a partner church with Charlotte Awake, to disperse into the city of Waxhaw to intercede for the lost people, schools, neighborhoods, first responders, law enforcement, and the churches. I must admit that I showed up that Saturday morning doubting and questioning whether God would move. Of course, we had planned, strategized, and prayed for God to move but the expectancy was not there on my part. As we set out in our prayer teams the Lord quickly convicted me and encouraged me.
When the team gathered at the end of our time to debrief there were incredible stories that were shared of how God led them to certain people or opened their eyes to pray for certain things. For example, during a prayer walk through the neighborhood we were able to make contact with a person of peace who is open to reaching his neighbors with God’s Word and are working with them on beginning a Bible Cluster. Story after story was shared, and as each story was shared I was convicted of my lack of faith that God would move. From now on I am asking God to give me that belief and expectancy for him to move and answer prayer as we go out into the harvest.
Why pray for Waxhaw?
The city limits of Waxhaw has a population of 16,181 and according to recent data 11,650 people are lost (72%). These numbers break our heart and so our first goal is to establish a core prayer team. Long term our goal is to make grow, and gather disciples into a network of healthy multiplying churches that mobilize missionary teams to engage other unreached communities in Waxhaw and beyond.
If you would like to get connected and involved with the prayer team for the ministry in Waxhaw please let us know.
